Ballina

Ballina, situated in the mouth of the Richmond River, is a town on the North Coast of New South Wales, and has a population of over 16,000. Ballina is Australia’s most easterly point, approximately 750 kilometers north of Sydney and South of Brisbane. Here in Ballina, you can find the world’s largest prawn, which is made of concrete and fiberglass. The town of Ballina was names after an indigenous Australian word, “Bullinah” or Boolinah”,meaning “a place of many oysters”. When visiting Ballina, one can expect to see some nice beaches, including Lighthouse Beach and Shelly Beach, which are the two beaches patrolled by Surf Life Savers. A more secluded beach, called Angel’s Beach, is nice to walk along. Also another place to visit is Sharp’s Beach, which also has an occasional Life Saver presence. Between Angel’s and Sharp’s Beach is Flat Rock, which is a large rocky outcrop into the sea. A short distance away is Boulder Beach, which as the name indicates, has large boulders instead of sand. At the center of town sits the area’s 2 shopping centers. One is called River Street. The other is located at the end of Kerr Street. There are also smaller shopping centres at East and West Ballina however these are only of interest to anybody who would be staying nearby, being mainly groceries and other services. Ballina is a perfect place to come and visit for beach lovers who love to enjoy the bounty of the see but still seek the comfort of nearby shopping areas.
